The event, organized by United Way Worldwide (UWW)’s Europe & Middle East Team and hosted by United Way Hungary in Budapest, brought together 54 Board members and staff of United Way organizations from the region as well as UWW representatives from the US. The overall goal of the conference was to reinforce the engagement of all in fostering the development of the United Way network across the region in order to create more opportunities for people, and advance the common good.
Regional conferences enable the movement to come together and build a robust network by discussing our regional strategy and leveraging best practices. The conference program has been designed to best meet the needs and expectations of the local United Ways and was organized around the pillars of Impact Strategies and Investor Relations.
The first day acknowledged the presence of a significant number of Board Members for whom a separate track of workshops was organized and who also led a Board Engagement session. 'The board presence was a real plus, and I hope that we can build on this over the years to come. It was practical, local and solutions focussed', Hannah Bellamy, UK CEO.
United Ways’ staff members shared their experience with peers and United Way Worldwide. UWW also presented the latest thinking, learning tools and opportunities available to the regional network.
“Thank You to UW Hungary’s Board & staff team who were instrumental in the success of the conference, and offered us an unforgettable visit of the beautiful House of Parliament”, Benedicte de Saint Pierre.
• Gain a better understanding of the UW Business Model and of how to link community priorities with donors’ interests (BP 1), especially in the area of Youth Success.
• Identify key actions and capacities that each LUW could develop to strengthen its fundraising efforts. Focus on individual engagement: major giving (BP4), and corporate relations.
• Help LUWs’ staff and Board members engage more and more frequently within the region by better understanding each other’s strengths and exchanging best practices.
'Thank you for a very pleasant oportunity to meet colleague from other UWs and exchange experience and learn new things from all of them', Ada Gabor, Manager Timisoara Office United Way Romania
